It's basically about trying to plan it out perfectly but if something goes wrong, it becomes a merry chase which is really fun in a different way. You're actually describing part of what my group of friends (many of whom would describe themselves as casuals) like about the game. Not something I would recommend for most veteran gamers, let alone casual gamers.
You can be as pro as they come, but the minute your idiot buddy decides to dig through the walls (ALL the walls) rather than waiting for the guard rotation, everything goes to shit in a Benny Hill approved manner. You have very atypical tastes in "best local co-op." For me, Monaco was a total exercise in frustration. This is sad, since the concept seemed pretty cool once I got into it.Įveryone should play it, it's the best local co-op I've ever played. I suspect that since it spent long enough in such a terrible state, there's no chance of success now, and any community has since evaporated.
They theoretically improved the netcode in a patch a while ago, but I haven't had the chance to try it again since. It also has the lovely feature where if one person leaves a level (quit, disconnect, etc), it dumps everyone else out unceremoniously. We tried it a few times for co-op night, and the only way we could get it to work was with Jebus hosting (four or five others couldn't host), and I ended up having to spin custom holes in my firewall just to connect (the only game I've ever had to do this for). The biggest problem is that it launched with absolutely TERRIBLE netcode. It is NOT an ARPG though, which made my initial reaction negative since I was expecting such based on the camera. It's an interesting enough game, sort of like playing just dungeon runs from an MMO (there are up to four players, and each chooses a different character, all of which play differently) but from a ARPG camera viewpoint. I bought FORCED on a recommendation from Jebus (yeah yeah, I know). Either way, I think it's worth looking at. He might have the patience that we 80's kids did.no idea about dad, though. In any case, I don't know how old OP's son is, but when I was a strapping 10 year old lad, many of the games I played fit neatly into the vicious bastard category, and I somehow turned into the charming character I am today. It's a cute vicious bastard though, which may have influenced the wife's perception a bit. Lulz were had with that approach, but I'd be hesitant to rate the game outside of that. To be honest, I've only really played it as a sort of party game, meaning all 4 of us were more or less shitfaced. Never played Forced, though! Now I'll have to rectify that.įorced was fun as a local co-op game, haven't tried it solo or online. But included Guacamelee, because that makes LOTS of sense. I was worried Spelunky would be too difficult, so I left it off my list. To which I would add Spelunky and Forced.
